There was no consensus over the three design options produced by the external consultants after the public consultation in the summer of 2009. The Masterplan Steering Group, on which the Friends are well represented therefore agreed that the consultants should develop a revised outline design which would more accurately reflect what people had asked for.
When this revised design was presented to the Friends it involved the sale of the north west corner of the park, on the basis that this was the only means that funding to implement a plan could be obtained. The committee was unable to agree with this and a mandate was given by members for the continued opposition to such a sale. Work on the master plan therefore stopped to enable discussions between the Council and the Friends to continue. They have now recommenced.
